The Wallingford STEM Academy is a collaborative partnership between the Spanish Community of Wallingford (SCOW), the Town of Wallingford Department of Youth and Social Services (WYSS) and the Connecticut Education Asociation (CEA). The Academy is open to the general population, and 50% of the students are Hispanic.
The program is designed to excite students in grades 4 through 8 about science, technology, engineering and math. It includes activities at SCOW, as well as field trips to laboratories and planetariums in schools and universities in the area. It also includes monthly Family Science Nights at a Planetarium. The purpose of the program is to build community (and parent) partnerships and coalitions by initiating STEM education reform as it aligns with the New National Science Frameworks.
